Sunny D. Mitchell, MD, FACS

Sunny D. Mitchell, MD, FACS

Dr. Sunny D. Mitchell, a board-certified and fellowship-trained oncoplastic breast surgeon with Highland Medical, and the Medical Director of The Breast Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. Dr. Mitchell has extensive experience working with high-risk breast cancer populations and provides patient-centered care with a holistic approach. She is passionate about helping her patients, from treatment through survivorship. 

Dr. Mitchell is a pioneer in the field of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery wrote the Oncoplastic Breast Conservation Surgical Atlas on performing lumpectomies via anatomically discrete incisions.  She specializes in breast-conserving and nipple-sparing surgical techniques that leave a very small surgical footprint while still providing the best possible optimal medical and cosmetic results. As an expert Hidden Scar™ breast surgeon, Dr. Mitchell teaches other breast surgeons who are pursuing certification in this highly skilled and advanced surgical procedure. 

Dr. Mitchell received her medical doctorate from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico and New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She completed her general surgery residency at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, where she was Administrative Chief Surgical Resident. She completed her breast surgery fellowship at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Prior to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Dr. Mitchell’s previous positions include Attending Breast Surgeon and Director of the Breast Clinic at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT; Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons; Director of Breast Surgery at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY; and Associate Chairperson of Surgery and Director of Women’s Health Services at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Mitchell’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and serves as a lecturer and presenter at national conferences.

Adrienne Fueg, MD, FACS

Adrienne Fueg, MD, FACS

Dr. Fueg is a board certified surgeon who specializes in general, breast and advanced laparoscopic surgery. She has been practicing medicine for 20 years and currently practices with Highland Surgical Associates in West Nyack, NY. She was an attending physician at Elk Regional Medical Center in St. Mary’s Pennsylvania for five years and had a private practice in the Bronx for seven years prior to joining Highland Surgical.

Dr. Fueg earned her medical degree from SUNY-Health Science Center at Brooklyn. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center, New York Medical College, and Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, New York Medical College. In addition, she completed a Critical Care Fellowship at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center.

She is a member of the Society of Women Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons as well as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephew, hockey, travel, exercise and sewing.

Her research has been published in The Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Psychopharmacology and Brain Research.

Nelly Oundjian, MD

Nelly Oundjian, MD

Dr. Oundjian is Director of the Cancer Genetics Program at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Oundjian received her medical degree with honors from Aleppo University School of Medicine in Syria. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Harlem Hospital in New York City and her post-doctoral fellowship in clinical genetics at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Oundjian is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics.

Lawrence F. Simon, MD, FACS

Lawrence F. Simon, MD, FACS

Dr. Simon is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and was previously the Director of Surgical Services and Medical Director of the Wound Care Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. He practices with Highland Surgical Associates in West Nyack, NY, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Simon has held leadership positions with several associations in the county including, President of the Rockland County Unit of the American Cancer Society, a member of the Executive Board of the Rockland County Medical Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Rockland County PSRO. Dr. Simon earned his medical doctorate from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed his Internship and Residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York.

Dr. Simon proudly served as Major in the United States Air Force.  In his spare time, Dr. Simon enjoys boating, spinning, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Brie Fantini, PA-C

Brie Fantini, PA-CBrie Fantini, PA-C is a board certified Physician Assistant specializing in Breast Surgery. She joins Highland Medical, Breast Surgery with seven years of experience as a Physician Assistant at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT.  She received her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant studies at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Ms. Fantini prides herself on developing a positive rapport with patients and looks forward to continuing to provide exceptional patient centered care.

 

Myriam Kawaja, MS, CGC

Myriam Kawaja, MS, CGC

Myriam Kawaja is a licensed and certified genetic counselor at Highland Medical, Breast Surgery located in Nyack, NY.  She received her Masters of Science in Human Genetics as well as her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselling.

Prior to joining Highland Medical, Myriam was a Genetics Counselor at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Network, Beth Isreal Medical Center and focused on  preconception and prenatal counseling. In addition to her duties at Highland Medical,  Myriam is also a multilingual genetic counseling consultant who specializes in preconception, prenatal and cancer counseling at three different locations in Hudson County for CarePoint Health.

Myriam is fluent in English, Spanish and Arabic. She is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors, the American Board of Genetic Counseling and the American Counseling Association. She is passionate about educating and supporting her patients that are at risk or already diagnosed with hereditary conditions. Myriam brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience to Highland Medical, and looks forward to serving her patients.
